Hope you all had a wonderful Easter Holiday, the sunny warm weather is finally here - or trying to be. Recital time is near, also. Our theme this year is "Where have you been? Where are you going?" Everyone is working hard to give you another wonderful show. It's our 35th year. All your teachers are dedicated with the same goal in mind, to teach your child how to dance and to have a great show. Most have been with the studio for many years. Their experience makes for a well-run recital and their continued enthusiasm and fresh approach to dance, always keeping up with the latest trends and music, is what makes it an exceptional enjoyable show.

May is the last month you will be paying tuition this season..
Costumes are not given out until the year is paid in full.
It might be a good idea to check with the office to see
if your account is up-to-date. You must get your costumes
before the dress rehearsal. Please note: We will not be distributing
costumes at the dress rehearsal.

Be sure to get new shoes, if you need them,
If in doubt what color or style
ask Cathy-Jo or your teacher.

CATHY-JO IRVINE STUDIO OF DANCE
Recital Information

Kingston Intermediate School

May 2, 2008

Dear Parents and Students:

All dancers should be at Kingston Intermediate School one hour before show time. Stay with your class and apply your finishing touches in your assigned dressing room. Moms, stay with your child until showtime, and then let the Badge Mother know where you are sitting and enjoy the show. Have ALL your costume pieces, and shoes labeled with child's name.

You and your family members* will not see your dancers, other than on stage, until the show is over. Once the show starts, performers are not allowed in the lobby, and NO audience members are allowed past security. In the event you MUST take them home before the finale' let your Badge Mother and/or teacher know before hand. You must then sign them out with the security people - this being for your child's safety.

The directors, entire staff, students and performers work hard to provide an entertaining, fast moving, recital for our audience. Songs are edited down to two minutes to keep the show short. Please let your family and friends know this and ask them to stay until the end.

MAKEUP AND HAIR: On stage the spotlights and stage lights will wash out your face, if you have not applied enough makeup. Foundation is not necessary for those under 10 years old, bright colors on eyes, lips and cheeks are a must. False eyelashes for teenagers and spray glitter for hair are also popular now. Anyone confident in makeup application is encouraged to help out. Look at photos in the studio - the groups should look the same. Do not share eye makeup or lipstick unless you have disposable applicators. No matter how short your hair is, you MUST slick it back and pull it up to look like everyone else. Gels and hair spray work wonders. No bangs! No belly rings or jewelry other than stud earrings.

BACKSTAGE: First of all, we thank all of you who agreed to be a Badge Mother. We hope that the rest of the mothers will show appreciation and thanks to you, too. Badge Mothers, be sure to get a letter with information. Backstage moms (Badge Mothers) with aprons and security passes are the ONLY ONES permitted in and out of the dressing rooms during the entire show,*see above, so follow all rules that the workers and teachers tell you, please. If you don't think you can stay away, then sign up to be a Badge Mother. We play movies and you can send, blankets, coloring books and cards - things like that. Students ARE NOT allowed to go into the audience. It is very distracting. They must stay in the dressing room until they leave - NO EXCEPTIONS!

NO FOOD: Food is not allowed in the auditorium or dressing rooms. It is completely unnecessary to eat backstage. Kids are too excited to eat and it ends up all over the floor. Please help by cleaning up ALL your things. Don't drink too much; going to the bathroom isn't easy in costumes.

AWARDS: Attendance awards will be given at the last lesson. Five and ten year trophies will be awarded on stage. Trophy recipients, please let Melissa or Terry know at which show you want your trophy to be presented, or write it on the list you signed. This is your responsibility.
Please save any gifts that you purchase for your child until after the show. This applies to grandparents, too. *See above information. They cannot be given to your child on stage, for obvious reasons. Recital bouquets of various sizes, from TOSS BOUQUET, (pre-orders available) and recital T-shirts will be sold in the lobby at each recital.

TALENT UNIT AUDITIONS: Talent Unit auditions will be held Wednesday and Thursday, June 11 and 12 @ 4:00 p.m. at the Pembroke Studio. Those interested must be entering at least the 4th grade, be committed to their team and to improving their dance skills. Requirements include, weekly ballet class, near perfect attendance, class uniform, mandatory rehearsals and workshops, entrance fees etc. The studio gives tuition discounts and many hours of time to competition classes.

SUMMER CLASSES and Summer Camp and Fall Registration forms. If you don't have one yet, they are in the studio, and on our website. cathyjoirvinedancestudio.com. Come join the summer fun!

BE SURE YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS KNOW THAT NO CAMERAS, STILL OR VIDEO, ARE ALLOWED IN THE SCHOOL DURING RECITAL. YOU MAY DO BOTH AT DRESS REHEARSAL. Group photos and videos will be taken by a professional and available for purchase. Order Forms for theses are available in the lobby.

NORTH RIVER ARTS FESTIVAL: Saturday May 24th @ 11:00 a.m. Classes performing will get info on this notice.

Hopefully we've covered everything. Any questions? Give us a call! 781-829-0733

Dancingly yours,

Cathy-Jo

DRESS REHEARSAL INFORMATION

Dress Rehearsals, Saturday, May 10th, 2008
Saturday's Show Rehearsal @ 11:00
Sunday's Show Rehearsal @2:00
Kingston Intermediate School *Directions Below

April 28, 2008

Dear Parents and Students:

Upon arrival, find yourself a spot in a dressing room, band room or music room (doors will be marked), to keep costume changes. Do not use bathrooms to get changed. The cafeteria isn't available until recitals. Parents, please do not drop off your older kids unattended, all day, to dress rehearsal. Please, please, please respect school property and clean up after yourself, especially in the bathrooms. Food is not allowed in the auditorium, backstage or in dressing rooms. Do not touch things such as musical instruments, chalkboards, teacher's desks, etc. We will check dressing rooms and get a report from the custodian. Please help maintain our good reputation and clean up after yourself!!

The Grand Finale': This is done ordinarily at the end of the show, but being done first at each rehearsal, to expedite things. Then we'll do the show from beginning to end in order of the program. This is the only time that people dancing in the show are allowed to sit down in the audience. Classes performing in more than one show, rehearse at its earliest dress rehearsal. Everyone may leave when they've done all their dances. Your teacher will go over everything in class, including which costume is first.

Badge Mothers: We still need badge mothers for some classes, so please check with your teachers if you can help out. Sign up sheets are at the studio.

Photographer: OceanWalk Photography will be doing individual pictures at the dress rehearsal, in the lobby. Group photos will be taken backstage at the recital. Order forms are available at the studio and you can fill them out in advance to save time.

Costumes: Put you name on EVERY piece of costume, and in shoes! Regular panties are not supposed to be worn under costumes. This is why we wear quality (Danskin) tights for performing. If you did not order them from Robin, you need to find Danskin Style #387/ child or Style #72/Adult.

Hair: Wear your hair the way you plan to wear it in the recital, to make sure your hairdo and headpiece work. All hair must be up and off the neck and NO BANGS - gel works. Bring bobby pins, safety pins, and hairspray or gel., etc. Bright makeup is required, because of the picture taking.

Picture taking and videos: At the dress rehearsal this may be done anywhere, and flash bulbs may be used. During the recital performance, however, cameras and videos are prohibited, so take advantage, and your pictures now.

There will be classes the week before the recital and until May 16, 2008. There are no regular classes on Saturday, May 10, Dress Rehearsal Day, or Recital Days, May 17 and 18. Your last class will be ______________________________________.

*Costumes are not distributed until all payments are completed for the year. Don't wait until Dress Rehearsal, when your dancer is in a panic, to settle your account.
*Reminder: It is your responsibility to sign up for your five, ten or more year trophy if you think you should be getting one, and also which show you want it given, if you are in both shows.
*The next letter will have information regarding Talent Unit tryouts. These are classes that compete in dance competitions locally.
*Ticket days went well. Tickets will be on sale at the Dress Rehearsal. We have plenty left for both shows.

*DIRECTIONS TO KINGSTON INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL: From Weymouth or Pembroke, take Route 3 South to Exit 9 - Bickfords - go right, then take an immediate left @ the lights to Kingston Elementary School. It is directly opposite the driveway to Bickfords. Follow the driveway road past the elementary school.
Kingston Intermediate is behind it, after the playground.

Dancingly,

Cathy-Jo

Nice job girls.

Our dance family is growing! Miss Melissa and her husband Jarod, are expecting their first child in October.

We are all very happy and excited for her. Melissa has been with us through school, college and now is also a teacher at the public schools in Marshfield. She plans to continue to teach dance with us.

The Tremaine Dance Convention in New York City was a great success. The students danced from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, and 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 on Sunday. They were totally worn out, but invigorated because they had learned so much. Many of us watched a competition on Saturday night, and the instructors put on a great performance on Sunday before we boarded the bus. It was not just dance, though, some attended a Broadway play, dined at interesting restaurants, shopped, went to an American Girl luncheon, museums, and were all enjoyed. New York City has so much to offer. Consider joining us next year.

A poster of pictures will soon be up.

TICKET DAYS: Ticket Days run fast and smooth – like a well oiled machine! Ticket days are Friday, April 20, at the Weymouth Studio from 7:30-8:30 p.m. for the second show ONLY (May 20 @ 1:00 p.m.) and on Saturday April 21, at the Pembroke Studio from 7:30-9:30 a.m. for ALL SHOWS (1st, 2nd and 3rd). F.Y.I. Tickets are sold at the Weymouth studio as a convenience to those families because they have to travel to Kingston for the Dress Rehearsal and Recital, and also to lessen the sales, thus wait time on Saturday morning.

Reserved seating ticket sales open on a 1st come basis, in limited quantities @$12.00 each. Our policy, on opening ticket day is that each family is limited to a maximum of eight (8) tickets, and each person in line can only purchase for himself. If you want more than eight (8) tickets, leave those orders with Cathy-Jo or your salesperson on ticket day, and these will be filled, in order received, after April 21. We will place extra ticket orders as close to your first seats as possible. Please remember there are no refunds or returns.

We suggest that you know where your dancer stands in line, before hand, so you’ll know which side of the auditorium you will want to sit.

Kingston Intermediate is a comfortable, new auditorium, and all of the seats are good. If you are unable to come on ticket day, or would simply prefer to order tickets, leave cash or check, and your order, with Cathy-Jo. There will be no limit on these tickets, and you should mark your envelope with which show you want, who the student(s) is, and any other info or requests. These requests will be filled in the order received after April 21.

Tickets are needed @ $12.00 for ALL admissions, including children who require a seat. The only exception to this is if you have a toddler that must sit on your lap. Fire laws prohibit sitting in the aisles and/or on the floor.

Tickets will continue to be sold until the recital, and any remaining will be available at the door.

DRESS REHEARSAL TIMES: May 12: Show #1 @ 11:00, Show #2 @ 1:30, Show #3 @ 3:30

TIGHTS: Please see Robin, or if she is not in, leave a check, for $10.00 /pair, with student’s name, size needed , made out to Robin Irvine, and put it in her mail box. She will pull them for you, if the size is sold out she will give you the style # to purchase them elsewhere.

FATHERS DANCE: Calling all dads, come join the fun! Classes are Friday, nights, 8:30 p.m. at the Pembroke studio, starting April 13.. There is no charge for this class and you get to take a bow with your child(ren).
If you’ve seen the fathers dance in the past and wanted to do it, now is the time!! They have a great time.
FATHERS who are dancing do not need a ticket, unless they want to be seated to watch the show. These fathers usually serve as ushers/doormen.

Dancingly yours,

Cathy-Jo

Talent Unit Corner

On the 28th of Jan. all of the Talent Units woke up bright and early to attend a dance workshop at the Lantana in Randolph. We came back with aching bodies and plenty of new dance moves to share. After the workshop, our captains and fundraising committee met at Au Bon Pain to discuss a few issues. We elected to Treasurers, Jen Bishop and Talia Dagnello, to manage our fees and fundraising money. The T.U. are currently fundraising to attend a dance convention this summer in New York. We have already raised some money from our Drop & Shop in December, but we are planning to sell cookie dough and raffling off a basket full of movies, candy, popcorn and a gift certificate towards 1 month's class tuition. Raffle tickets will be sold at the studio during Watch Week, so be sure to attend. T.U. dances are well underway, and we are preparing for spring competitions. Stay tuned for updates.

November 16, 2006

Dear Parents and Students:

We are having our 3rd annual "Bring a Friend Week" from November 27 to December 2, 2006. This will be a great opportunity to show our friends your dance, and let them join in the class and learn a new dance with you. This will be fun for you and your friends. Gift bags are passed out to each guest.

In addition, if your friend enrolls and stays with us for the remainder of the year, you will receive a gift of a credit towards your lessons.* Remember enrollment for this year ends in November. This will be the last chance, for anyone interested, to join this year.

Let the studio know, by November 27 if (and how many) you are bringing. This is necessary for teacher preparation, and a head count to ensure we have enough staff on duty.

JOIN THE FUN!!!!
Dancingly,
Cathy-Jo

PERMISSION SLIP: click here for Permission Slip

*Not applicable if "friend" is currently enrolled at the studio.

OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER 2006

ANOTHER GREAT DANCE YEAR IS UNDERWAY!

We hope everyone is setting into another great year of dance.
The Policy and Procedures letter has been printed for you. The letter refers to very important dates for the year, proper class attire, etc. If you have not received a copy, please be sure to get one, and save it for future reference.

Have you seen the recently produced PEMBROKOPOLY GAME.? It is being sold by the Pembroke Schools, and is a copy of the popular Monopoly Game, except it has all the local Pembroke businesses featured in the spaces. Cathy-Jo Irvine Dance Studio is one of those spaces! Check it out. If you like the game, it will be that much more fun to play, knowing the businesses on the squares.

VERY IMPORTANT DATES! MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

ALL AT KINGSTON INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL

DRESS REHEARSALS, MAY 12, 2007

RECITAL SHOW #1, MAY 18, 2007

RECITAL SHOW #2, MAY 20, 2007

RECITAL SHOW #3, MAY 20, 2007

You (or your child) will not be in all three shows! We spread them out so that they are "short and sweet"! Each show will last approx. 2 1/2 hrs.

We have a celebrity in our family.

Watch NESN (Ch 38) on Thursday nights @ 10:30 (and repeat shows after that) "BE A BRUIN" featuring our own Jim Marchioni. He is Jill's dad, Tess and Lauren's Godfather, and Cathy-Jo's brother-in-law. Jim is an exceptional hockey player-who tried out for this reality show and beat out nearly 200 contestants. If you like hockey (or not) you'll love this show. It's an elimination, as in most reality shows, and Jim's doing great!

MISS GINA WHITING IS NOW MRS. RICHARD LUZ.

Gina and "Punkin" got married on October 14 at a beautiful ceremony in Plymouth. Of course Gina was a beautiful bride, and her wedding was as much fun as you would expect her to have! Best wishes for continued happiness from all of us, Gina.

Check out the dancewear in the store. It is all top quality merchandise, and marked down from the already reasonable prices. Great ideas for Christmas gifts.

***********************************************************************************

Dear Parents and Students:

All dancers should be at Kingston Intermediate School one hour before show time. Stay with your class and Badge Mother in your assigned dressing room. Moms, once your kids are all set, let the Badge Mother know where you are sitting and enjoy the show. Have ALL your costume pieces labeled with child's name. You and your family members will not see your dancers, other than on stage, until the show is over. In the event you MUST take them home before the finale' let your Badge Mother and/or teacher know before hand.. You must then sign them out with the security people - this being for your child's safety. Unlike dress rehearsal, there will be specified dressing areas for each age group, males, etc.

Foundation is not necessary for those under 10 years old. Dark bright colors are best, on eyes, lips and cheeks.

Badge Mothers, check in and be sure to get a letter with information. Backstage moms (Badge Mothers) with aprons are the ONLY ONES permitted in and out of the dressing rooms during the entire show. This is for security reasons, so follow all rules that the workers and teachers tell you, please.

Kids are too nervous to eat and it ends up all over the floor. Please help by cleaning up ALL your things.

AWARDS: Attendance awards will be given at the last lesson. Five and ten year trophies will be awarded on stage. Trophy recipients, please let Maria know at which show you want your trophy to be presented, or write it on the list you signed. This is your responsibility.
Please save any gifts that you purchase for your child until after the show. They cannot be given to your child on stage, for obvious reasons. Recital bouquets of various sizes, from TOSS BOUQUET, and recital T-shirts will be sold in the lobby at each recital.

TALENT UNIT AUDITIONS: Talent Unit auditions will be held June 14 & 15 @ 4:00 p.m. at the Pembroke Studio. Those interested must be entering at least the 4th grade, be committed to their team and to improving their dance skills. Requirements include, weekly ballet class, near perfect attendance, class uniform, mandatory rehearsals and workshops, entrance fees etc. The studio gives special tuition discounts and many hours of time to competition classes.

SUMMER CLASSES and Summer Camp and Fall Registration forms. If you don't have one yet, they are in the studio. Come join the summer fun!

PLEASE REMEMBER AND ADVISE YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS THAT NO CAMERAS, STILL OR VIDEO, ARE ALLOWED IN THE SCHOOL DURING RECITAL. YOU MAY DO BOTH AT DRESS REHEARSAL. GROUP PHOTOS AND VIDEOS WILL BE TAKEN BY A PROFESSIONAL AND AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE.

NORTH RIVER ARTS FESTIVAL: May 27th @ 11:00 a.m.. Classes performing will get info on this notice.

Hopefully we've covered everything. Any questions? Give us a call! 781-829-0733

Dancingly yours,

Cathy-Jo

Dear Parents and Students:

Upon arrival, find yourself a spot in a dressing room, band room or music room (doors will be marked), to keep costume changes. Do not use bathrooms to get changed. The cafeteria isn't available until recitals. Parents, please do not drop off your older kids unattended, all day, to dress rehearsal. Please, please, please respect school property and clean up after yourself, especially in the bathrooms. Food is not allowed in the auditorium, backstage or in dressing rooms. Do not touch things such as musical instruments, chalkboards, teacher's desks, etc. In the past we have had complaints, but last year it went very well. The custodian's report was a positive one. You all behaved beautifully, cleaned up after yourselves, and I was very proud of you. Please help maintain our reputation!

The Grand Finale: This is done ordinarily at the end of the show, but being done first at each rehearsal, to expedite things. Then we'll do the show from the beginning to end in order of the program. This is the only time that people dancing in the show are allowed to sit down in the audience. Classes performing in more than one show, rehearse at it's earliest dress rehearsal. Everyone may leave when they've done all their dances. Your teacher will go over everything in class, including which costume is first.

Badge Mothers: We still need badge mothers, so please check with your teacher if you can help out.

Photographer: OceanWalk Photography will be doing individual pictures at the dress rehearsal in the lobby. Group photos will be taken backstage at the recital. Order forms are available at the studio and you can fill them out, in advance, to save time.

Costumes: Put your name on every piece of costume, and in shoes! Regular panties are not supposed to be worn under costumes. This is why we wear heavy (Danskin) tights for performing. If you did not order them from Robin you need to find Danskin Style #58/child style #69/Adult.

Hair: Wear your hair the way you plan to wear it in the recital, to make sure your hairdo and headpiece work. All hair must be up and off the neck and no bangs-gel works. Bring bobby pins, safety pins, and hairspray or gel, etc. Makeup is required, because of the picture taking.

Picture taking and videos: At the dress rehearsal this may be done anywhere, and flash bulbs may be used. During the recital performance, however, cameras and videos are prohibited, so take advantage, and your pictures now.

*Reminder: Sign up for your five, ten or more year trophy if you think you should be getting one, and also when you want it given.
*A Registration form will be sent out for next year, so be sure to read it, for pre-registration. Some classes get filled up.
*We'll be holding 4-week adult courses in ballroom on Wednesday evenings at 8:30p.m. Join us!
*The next letter will have information regarding Talent Unit tryouts. These are classes that compete in dance competitions locally. This year's teams are doing fantastically. They are working hard and it shows. They've received high scores as well as special awards. We are so proud of them. You'll be able to see them perform at the recitals.
*Ticket days went well. SHOW #3 is almost sold out. Shows #1 and #2 are still trying to catch up, so don't wait to buy your tickets.
